Dog Training for Family Dogs.
Hi and welcome to Take The Leash K9 Training! My name is Kathy, the owner and trainer at Take The Leash K9 Training. I’m a professional trainer located in Hampton, VA. I offer a few home-based Board & Train services to help fast-track training and I also offer private lessons so you can learn how to enjoy a walk with your dog or fix some behavioral issues you’re struggling with.
Is your dog pulling hard, lunging or jumping when you’re trying to walk him/her? I can help with that!
Training
Dogs need to be trained so that they won’t pull on the leash, won’t jump up, and won’t rush out a door, but we need to teach them how in a way that they can understand. I also believe in looking out for the owner, too. No one deserves to be pulled around by their dog. Walks are supposed to be enjoyable for your dog and you. It’s not fun to be pulled around, jumped on, or to have to listen to nuisance barking, whining or screaming. A lot of people are being injured by their dogs daily, it doesn’t have to happen. Manners can be taught to any dog, at any age. I can stop your dog from misbehaving and teach you how to maintain your dog’s manners and training. You can have a well behaved dog. These dogs pictured below are on Place and are learning “the art of doing nothing” which is extremely hard for most dogs.
Having problems in the house with your dog? Is your dog going crazy when someone knocks on the door? Does your dog bolt out the door or yard at any opportunity? Are you having trouble house-breaking your dog? Does your dog chew on your belongings? These are some of the many things I can help you with. Very few dogs end up at the local shelter when they’ve got great manners and basic obedience. Most of the dogs at shelters have very bad manners and little to no training. With training, time and patience, they can become the nicest dogs. They’re never too old to train. This pup pictured to the right thought it was great fun to run around with socks or whatever he could grab and play keep away. It may be a fun game for the dog, but most people don’t find it fun at all. Here I’ve taught him he’s not allowed to have the tasty leather glove or the sock.
Bad Behavior at Home
More Bad Behavior
Resource guarding, running away through open doors, running around your house like it’s a jungle gym, bad crate manners, barking, digging holes, pushy, brattty, attacking the vacuum cleaner, the list goes on and on. All of this can be stopped by training the dog and helping the owner learn how to handle their dog to keep bad behavior a thing of the past.
This cute little fellow had quite the extensive list of naughty behaviors when he came in for training. It was easier to explain what naughty stuff he DIDN’T do than to say what he did! Super proud of him and his owners for putting in the time and keeping this cute boy on his toes minding his manners.
